With nearly three decades of experience in the mental health field, Shirley Lozano Nelson is a seasoned Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in individual, couples, and family therapy. Shirley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rutgers University, focusing on Developmental Psychology, a Master’s in Social Work from Monmouth University, with a concentration in Clinical Practice with Children and Families and a Certificate in Clinical Supervision. She is a proud inductee of the Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work, underscoring her commitment to academic excellence and professional ethics.
Shirley’s practice addresses a broad spectrum of psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and adult neurodivergence. She is also adept at managing complexities associated with chronic or terminal illnesses, grief, loss, relationship issues, and stress management. Committed to staying at the forefront of her field, Shirley regularly pursues advanced training in the latest evidence-based therapies.
Her therapeutic approach includes various modalities but is centered around Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), enhanced by a variety of techniques such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Exercises and Mindfulness strategies.
